RICHES AND HONOR

I. INTRODUCTION:

  1. God promises riches and honor and much more.

  2. But before honor goeth humility: Prov. 15:33.

  3. Mac Davis in his song. Its hard to be humble. = is a very true statement. He got better looking every day and treasured his own company and couldn't wait to look in the mirror.

  4. God has showed thee O man... Mich. 6:8 these three things are importantn. 1 Pet. 5:5-7.

  5. In Christ are unsearchable riches Eph. 3:8.

  6. Webster Grove in the St. Louis area the youth of the wealthy were interviewed when the boy who killed his parents in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

II. NEW FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING

  1. Prov. 1:7, the beginning of an education (knowledge).

  2. The instruction to a son. Prov. 2:1-7

  3. Life to thy soul and grace to thy neck when we keep God's Law. Prov. 3:22

  4. Saftey is promised. Prov. 3:23-29

  5. Job said: "Behold the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding. Job 28:28; Eccl. 12:13-14

  6. The young man that was to tell Ahab about Elijah. 1 Kings 18:12; had feared the Lord from his youth up.

III. DURABLE RICHES AND RIGHTEOUSNESS

  1. Your riches are corrupted. James 5:1-8

  2. Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven. Matt. 6:19-20

IV. RICHES ARE RELATIVE

  1. There are those that maketh hhimself rich, yet hath nothing; there is he that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. Prov. 13:7

  2. Though he was rich. 2 Cor 8:9

  3. Bear Bryant. just a poor boy...

  4. When we are true Christians we are the richest people in all the world.

V. SOME THINGS BETTER THAN RICHES.

  1. Good name is better... Prov. 22:1

  2. Good name is better than precious ointment.

  3. Compared. "A gracious women retaineth honor; and a strong man retaineth riches. Prov. 11:16

  4. A man's pride will bring him low; but honor will uphold the humble in spirit. Prov. 29:23

VI. MOSES MADE A GREAT CHOICE, WILL YOU?

  1. He refused to be called the son of Pharoph's daughter. He chose greater riches for he looked ahead. Heb. 11:23-29

  2. This is the offer Christ will give them that obey Him. Heb. 5:8-9; Matt. 19:16-30.
